Early in this compelling doc about Iraqi thrashers Acrassicauda, a band member says, “To stay away from the devil, sing for him.” This could be these ‘Tallica-loving twentysomethings’ motto, as they struggle to exist within their oppressive Muslin homeland, facing strife that would reduce most American metalheads to tears. Bassist Firas Al-Taleef says that in Iraq, wearing a Slipknot T-shirt could get you killed; it’s truly moving to see how metal can literally be a life-and-death cause.
