THE ACCLAIMED SEQUEL TO THE SMASH HIT FILM “THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO,” BASED ON THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING NOVEL BY STIEG LARSSON, IS GEARING UP FOR A BIG DVD & BLU-RAY RELEASE
Music Box Films has just announced the DVD and Blu-ray debut of The Girl Who Played With Fire to be available beginning October 26th. It coincides with the American theatrical debut of the third and final Swedish film installment, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest on 10/29.
The Girl Who Played With Fire marks the return of Lisabeth Salander, the pierced and punked-out computer-hacking heroine of Larsson’s celebrated series, which have sold some 40 million copies in nearly 50 countries around the world. The film is directed by Daniel Alfredson and stars the inimitable Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist, both of whom reprise their roles from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Described as “sharply written, superbly acted, and fast-paced” by Reel Views and as a film that “rockets along with pulse-pounding tension” by Paper Magazine, The Girl With Who Played With Fire will be available to home-viewing audiences in Swedish with English subtitles, as well as a dubbed version in English.
Currently enjoying a sensational theatrical release in the country’s top 100 markets, The Girl Who Played With Fire (current box office gross: $5 million) is on track to become one of 2010’s highest-grossing and well-received foreign language entries in the U.S., just as Music Box Films’ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was earlier this year. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo takes the reigns as the highest-grossing European production of 2009 and a certified smash in the U.S. with its box office earnings of $9.9 million.
According to Variety
Released on DVD and Blu-ray by Music Box Films Home Entertainment on July 6, “Dragon Tattoo” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes and at No. 4 on Home Media magazine’s video chart, staying in the top 20 for four weeks. “The Girl Who Played With Fire” has grossed $7.1 million to date and continues to play in 171 theaters.
David Fincher has already snatched up the American remake of the film for its 2011 debut and has tapped Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara to play the leads. However, I suggest you all take home the DVDs of the Swedish version first – before checking out his version! The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is available now on DVD and Blu-ray.
